Mother of two sons and pregnant with ?
Son, age 6, diagnosed with 20/100 vision 2 months ago, though sure it's much less now. Live in Oregon. Working with Dr Weleber at Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Or. My older brother was diagnosed with it in 1991 at the age of 17. Recovered partially 1 year later. He can see 3 typed letters in central vision ever since. I have recently had genetic testing done to determine if I do in fact carry the LHON gene. I received my test results today. I do in fact carry this gene. I am now overcome with concern as I have one son who is only 3 years old. My mother, her twin sister and three of my uncles were affected by this disease. The youngest male at age 12, the oldest male into his early 20's. My mother and aunt were both affected in their mid to late 20's. I am in search of any/ all support groups or any information on current research. I am open to questions or any information at all. MY FAMILY IS AFFECTED BY THIS HORRID DISEASE.
MY MOTHER WAS 51 WHEN SHE LOST HER SIGHT, MY SON 19 WHEN HE DEVELOPED HIS FIRST SIGN.
I DO KNOW THAT THE BOTH HADD HEAD KNOCKS{SEVERE}
